Copavic Glass Factory

One thing I've learned on this trip is that I have a knack for taking fuzzy and generally bad photos. I think the main reason is that I'm always rushing i, since I find the act of taking a photo sort of embarrassing and shameful for some reason. I don't get it, it just is. Regardless, this trip to the glass factory was really interesting.

I love the pics - hy the Simon/O'Leary shame stuff - let it go. Your pictures are good and I lov the pics of your classmates. Whose the mad guy at the glass factory with the sledge hammer? I didn't know you hate Paul Mc Cartney - oh please don't. Does that mean you threw away the CD I sent you before I visited my mom in Chicago for 3 months? No matter. Can you e mail me or something and indicate whether there is any talk and or excitement about Obama's inauguration tomorrow - America is excited today, I can even feel it in Fresno. Finally some fresh air. Love, Mom

I love reading comments from 'Steve's mom' because I can hear 'Steve's mom's voice' when I read them. Anyone else?

Anywho, about this shame in taking pictures. It's disturbing. But I kind of understand. It feels goofy and like you're separating yourself from the moment when you're actually capturing it to share with other people. Like you're making a spectacle out of something by pointing a lens at it. And as a result, directing everyone else around you to look at what you're looking at when they probably wouldn't have noticed it in the first place.

But you have to do it. I'll probably never go to Guatemala. Steve's mom won't either. Seeing what you see, and the blogs that go with it are completely generous of you. And there shouldn't be any shame in being generous with the ones close to you.

...will you bring me back a rock?

steven yes, please keep photographing! i have also felt shame, and not taken any pictures of people while traveling because of fear that i would be "othering" the native peoples, so all my pictures of morocco were of cats. but i think it's ok, and agree with teresa that you're being very generous. also, people there might be excited that you are excited about Guatemala!

and for the most part, your pictures are in focus! the only times they're not is for closeups, and that's not your fault. is there a little macro setting on your camera with a picture of a tulip/flower? if you set it on that, it will take better closeups. watch out tho because the macro is addictive and next thing you know you'll be photographing the grain of your hand or the drops of condensation on a glass and other such dorky things. or not.
