It's called Sapote, and it looks really pretty on a green plate. I've heard it grows in some parts of Florida too - anyone know? It looks like a leathery potato on the outside, it's the texture of an avocado inside, it tastes like sweet potato pie, and it has a big beautiful seed that looks like a fossil of some sort.
The whole experience of eating this is sort of alarming on the first go-around, because it sort of doesn't make sense. I'm not a huge fan actually, due to the avocado-factor, but I'm bringing seeds home and I'm going to make a very humid environment for them in old soda bottles, and then I am going to try my best to grow a tree.
Jessica, if they still make Shasta bottles in the 3 liter with a wide-mouth, please get to drinking some so they're ready when I get back to LA.
